Daruma dolls are ornaments that people used to pray for as lucky charms to ward off misfortunes, illnesses, and misfortunes.

"Dharma" means "law" or "teaching" in Sanskrit. The name comes from the legend of Daruma Daishi, a monk who is said to have brought Buddhism from India to China. It is said that it was made without limbs, after the story that ``the hands and feet rotted while sitting in meditation facing the wall'' and the appearance that ``she is wearing a haori and doing zazen''.
